Earlier this year; we tried to make the Wales trip happen between 11 colleagues. After spending many of our Thursdays and Fridays drinking at the pub after work we decided to do a weekend away at one of our colleague’s Cottage in North Wales. The date was decided and after many scenarios as to how we were planning to get there, we managed to sort out 3 cars between us. We planned the drive from London to Wales to be about 4.5 hours and leaving at 7pm wasn’t the most ideal time but we dealt with it! It was all smooth sailing until we were 5 minutes from final destination and we just had to hit a rock and puncture the rear left tyre! Dammit, it was dark, cold, no signal and gone past midnight! Again, long story short we were saved by 2 very drunk colleagues to save us and thank God they trek-ed the two miles to find as we wouldn’t have found our way ourselves..in the middle of the night. After a blip of a night we drank our night away to release the stress from earlier that evening and waking up to a mountain view full on sheep was surreal. I’ve been stuck in the city for so long that I don’t remember the feeling of not hearing cars driving by every 1 minute and seeing so much green! I woke up listening to a lot of “baa baa” and I genuinely thought it was one of the girls mumbling downstairs! Oops I’ve not told her yet that I thought she was the sheep.
I am glad I brought my massive Canon 5D Mark ii camera with me to take these scenic pictures of North Wales and thankfully the weather was so amazing we were able to enjoy our brisk walk up the mountain. It wasn’t all sound of music up the hills as we had to dodge a lot of sheep shit…and I do mean A LOT!
By the evening, we had the most epic BBQ session ever; followed by a game of Mafia and Cards Against Humanity. After a few bottles of wine/whisky and general spirits and beers off course the cottage came alive with music blasting for miles (literally, we were in the middle of nowhere and disrupting the neighbour wasn’t going to be an issue!)
The evening was so messy we had a blast of a time and will definitely be a trip to remember!
I don’t think I will see such beautiful sky like this in London. It was hard to dodge sheep shit up there when the light was fading but there’s nothing worse than thinking about “am I going to step on sheep shit” every 4 seconds of my life for the past hour! Before we left for London; off course I did the honours to mow the back garden lawn with an ancient lawn mower (powered by an engine), cleared the ashes from the fireplace, cooked a full English breakfast for 11 and wash up!! When I say wash up, I meant the whole kitchen, the BBQ trays and the stinkin’ plates from last night. I am really feeling the inner domestic goddess but the matter of fact is that I am so messy at home my bedroom looks like World War 3. Wales, you have been fantastic and it will be quite a while before I visit Wales again!
