Turning Up To An Event By Yourself Can Be Daunting

Ever had anxieties when you are invited to an event and not knowing anybody prior to attending? After speaking to many bloggers like myself I feel like I am not alone on this matter and that it is in fact totally normal to feel alone and anxious to attend an event by yourself whilst you watch everyone come in as a group or mingling with others with so much ease like they are best buds already! Thankfully, since food blogging I have found that the food events are so much more friendlier than the beauty and fashion events that I used to attend. I know I know I am going to get criticised for using the term “pretentious” for the beauty and fashion scene but I know what I am talking about; I used to work in luxury retail, I’ve had nice things and attended a fair few events and the nature of competitiveness between these girls means that life within it is pretty darn “pretentious” for those who are climbing and look for social stat friends. Apart from the slight bitching I just did; there are many fashion/beauty bloggers I have met that are very very nice and genuine and understand that their world is pretty much dog eat dog which I am glad I got out of.

I managed to find comfort on Twitter prior to attending the event by tweeting out that I don’t know anybody and hoping that some will do the same and reply with the same answer! Who knew this technique works because at the back of those not so desperate tweets, I found some genuine friends (Ellie Matthews!!!) that I totally adore. This is definitely a top tip that I would recommend; if you have a confidence of a peanut and rather fearful to approach somebody first; tweet out for some support! There will always be one to reply :)

Hopefully it will only get easier the more people I know but for now, I still get some anxieties but I have learnt to attend as early as I can or be on time because the likely chance of you making alliances is much easier than turning up late and watch everyone forming groups already (sad face with a waterfall of tears). I attended an event like this once and it was very very awkward and lonely hahaha! If you are a newbie blogger I know how you must feel, but give it time…I am still getting used to it. Have a lovely day everyone and yay the Tube Strike has been called off! May x
