Fitness First Drop In Session at Tottenham Court Road

I was invited to Fitness First’s drop in session at their Tottenham Court Road branch and there’s no better way to enjoy my drop in session than the only Ellie Mathews – my workout buddy :)
Although I am already a member with ClassPass; I am always keen to try out new gyms and see what they offer. Upon arrival and a tad bit late to our booked session for pilates; we were greeted with a bag of goodies (who doesn’t like a bag of goodies – padlock, gym bag, towel and more accessories). As we ran to our pilates class and being 2 minutes late; the class was pretty packed..surprisingly packed as I tried to find an empty spot to lay my matt down. I managed to squeeze myself in as the girl behind me decided to gasp really loudly – I asked her if everything was ok and she gave me a huffy puffy face “Urghh I can’t seem to focus with everybody coming in late” …oops looked like I pissed her off! I hope she wasn’t another blogger during the drop in session because that would have been awkward. The class was an hour long; working on the core and general yoga practices for all levels – unsurprisingly there were a lot of girls in this class.

Next we had a PT session for about 20 minutes – mixture of cardio and weight training. I love training with a friend because we would try to push and motivate each other when we feel like giving up. Ellie was amazing for lifting the 8kg weight…that was seriously impressive and I knew I wasn’t strong enough so I had an alternative routine that was just as effective.
I definitely had more of a sweat session during the PT than the Pilates class but after a good tour of the gym; we can see where all the girls go (cardio room) and the lads in the boys toys room (very intimidating). I can definitely say that this is the best gym I’ve been too but for me personally; I love my variety of classes as opposed to self discipline at a gym.
We ended our evening by popping into their steam room instead of the sauna room – there were too many guys in the sauna that was a lil awkward but I very much prefer sauna anyway! One regret is that I didn’t get to try their pool; it is a very small pool but it’s better than nothing I guess!

A bit more about Fitness First:
They opened their first Fitness First in 1993 in Bournemouth and today they have grown to 16 countries globally. They also work in association with Team GB athletes and coaches to create 3 exclusive fitness programmes called Pro Athlete: Group Classes (endurance, speed, power, agility, strength), Gym Floor workout and Gym Floor Challenge. I wonder if we would get a chance to see any of the athletes train there for Rio 😀

Check out their Train With Us section that shows you what facilities they offer (mainly the Tottenham Court Road branch) but off course, not all locations are the same or share the same facilities. I didn’t take any pics of the gym as I didn’t want to invade in people’s privacy working out and I also think it’s a bit weird to take photos when it’s your only time to focus on yourself and sweat up a storm!
I had a great sweaty evening and here’s a sweaty selfie to prove it :) :) Thanks Fitness First for inviting us down #FitnessFirstDropIn
