Welcome to part deux of my Thailand trip down south ( Southern Thailand) where I said goodbye and flew domestically from Chiang Mai to Phuket with Airasia. Northern Thailand bolstered with culture from visiting the Karen Long Neck Tribe Village in Chiang Mai to stroking orphaned/saved elephants and tigers. A little fact about the long neck tribe is that there is no lengthening of the neck but a lowered collar bone reducing the height of the “torso”. They start off young and the the brace is certainly not light! What I didn’t like was that I felt the village was rather disturbed by incoming tourists taking pictures of them so I was rather concerned, but they say that’s how they make their income but I feel like it is such a shame that a traditional tribe is being disturbed and I did feel bad by being one of those tourists.
Radisson Blu Resort and Hotel in Phuket
We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights, I had a double ensuite bedroom with a balcony overlooking the sea. Unfortunately they ran out of deluxe suites with a pool for all of us and since I have a room to myself; I have no need of a private pool. What I really liked about this hotel was that we had a private beach – we have been trying to avoid tourist spots so we were glad to have the private beach to hotel residents only.
We have been so on the go since day one not not had a time to snooze in and enjoy what the hotel has to offer, especially with a private beach just a few meters away. There was a volleyball court and needless to say; us girls were a bit rubbish and couldn’t hold a rally of more than 3 passes but we had a lot of fun. Once we got the ball stuck on the palm tree and we stupidly try to shake the tree whilst the guys tried their Russian way by synchronising their pushes to no avail. We spent every evening at the hotel; drinking our fresh, custom made passion fruit daiquiris (bloody alcoholic must I say) and Thai rum on the rocks – not too sure about their spirits but before I knew it; I was left drinking with a Russian and a Moldovan. What did I learn? I can never drink like a Russian or Moldovan – whilst I was drunk off my face the guys were barely tipsy! When I left their room I couldn’t help but throw up in the bush by their doorstep…they don’t know this but if they ever read this post – now you know I remember coming by the next day and my vomit was still there…oops! I guess the cleaners didn’t see it.
Phi Phi Islands
Surprisingly, the ferry ride from Phuket to Phi Phi Islands was a bloody long ride; so long that my amateur friend didn’t put enough sun lotion on and got burnt on the chest whilst bathing on the top deck. Honestly; Phi Phi Islands aka beach for the westerners to get wasted wasn’t my scene so thankfully we had a small boat to ourselves and hanged out on a tiny little private beach, it was bliss. We had a dingy boat ride between the rocks on shallow waters which was stunning and annoyingly the guy that was rowing the boat kept asking whether my friend and I were on a honeymoon when we kept saying no!
We did some snorkelling too but from the many tourists around the area; so much coral has been damaged and not very much to see so unfortunately; it wasn’t worth snorkelling.
Phang Ggna and Khao Phing Kan aka James Bond Island
I think this island is over-rated; to the point where it is actually called James Bond Island. Perhaps I was spoiled in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai where I have enjoyed seeing the real deal of Thailand. There were so many tourists it just threw me off; but nonetheless, it was very scenic (minus the Korean and Chinese tour groups).
Private Catamaran Yacht
I think this was our favourite part of the trip; a private Catamaran yacht to ourselves! It has been a full week packed full of activities and we ended our trip in Phuket with a relaxing cruise under the sun. We found a shallow spot for snorkelling where we found more exotic fishes in the sea than Phi Phi islands. We blasted the music as loud as we can get – it’s the open sea, off course we can! We danced our evening away as we watched the sun set; it was just stunning. The yacht crew were amazing and they have been the perfect host during the cruise. I would recommend hiring a yacht out for the day – you just can’t beat the Titanic “Jack I’m flying’ moment.
Red Sky Bar in Bangkok
We spent our last day at the Red Sky Bar in Bangkok – the views were spectacular whilst sipping on some champagne to end the evening. To our surprise, we witnessed a marriage proposal and that was the sweetest thing I have seen in a long time!! What a perfect end to the fabulous trip to Thailand; I was sad to be the first one to return home! Thailand, thank you for the wonderful memories – I will forever cherish them. Until next time.
