I attended Chipotle’s first Blogger event on Baker Street and I was delighted to receive the invite and share the word with my other foodie blogger friends! Thankfully, they are located around the corner from my work place so local will always be a thumbs up for me.
Chipotle’s first UK outlet was back in 2010 and 7 in total to date with Baker Street being opened back in September 2011. Normally you would classify Chipotle as fast food but their quality and ambience is on a slightly different scale from any fast food outlets serving not only burritos but salads, tacos, burrito bowls and tortilla chips and guacamole dips.

I was a tad bit late to the event but nonetheless I made it in the end and weaved my way through to their kitchen where I found the rest of the foodie bloggers. I was so excited when they decided to show us how they made their guacamole which was in fact very easy to make. After many contributions from us to mash the avocados, we dipped the tortilla chips into the handmade guacamole! Damn it was sooo good. Whilst enjoying our dips; we watched Chipotle’s Back to the Start promo video which I was surprised how moving it was. “The film, by film-maker Johnny Kelly, depicts the life of a farmer as he slowly turns his family farm into an industrial animal factory before seeing the errors of his ways and opting for a more sustainable future. Both the film and the soundtrack (Coldplay’s track The Scientist) were commissioned by Chipotle to emphasize the importance of developing a sustainable food system.” Check out their touching and beautiful clip below that won Best TV Campaign at the Cannes Lion Festival:

I was really inspired and learnt so much about Chipotle and what goes behind the scenes of every burrito they make every day. The most interesting fact was that they source the best people first before opening their new outlets of which most (if not all) go about it the other way round. After an educational evening; we decided to tuck in to our choice of burrito and I went for the Barbacoa (braised beef served shredded) filling with beans and guacamole.
The portion is huge but definitely value for your money; it’s also warm, moist and healthy in fact! At that point; food baby and food coma was kicking so it was time to head off home.

Not long after the event; the lovely PR wanted to giveaway free burritos as a competition giveaway which was so sweet of them. But I had another idea; since I work locally, I wanted to help promote them with the people I work with and shout out that there is a Chipotle in the area! So I ran an easy mini competition for my colleagues to follow and tweet Chipotle on Twitter and Instagram.

I think it went down a treat and many of my colleagues weren’t very happy that they didn’t win a burrito. We all loved it, people were talking about it in the office; 19 hungry vultures were happy :) Thanks again Chipotle for the wonderful evening! You can find their branches here.
