Last weekend, I caught up with Sheepa ( from Food That Makes You Smile) and for those of you who do not know who she is (omfg how do you not know her already?), she’s the one responsible for creating the most mouthwatering birthday cakes for every foodie blogger you can think of! One day Sheepa, one day I have mine made by you. I was invited by 108 Pantry to try their afternoon tea and what better company than Sheepa. It’s difficult sometimes to catch up with friends so it was great to catch up with her over some scones, finger sandwiches and sweet treats that 108 Pantry has to offer. I was a little confused at first by the name of the restaurant; so basically it sits under The Marylebone and they have restaurants called 108 Brasserie and 108 Pantry.
108 Pantry, a chic all-day dining space offers diners a carefully crafted menu of dishes which are full of both flavour and nutritional benefit, in the heart of bustling Marylebone. I was intrigued by their offer of classic or gluten free afternoon tea so we thought we try both. The afternoon tea was nothing too fancy; the room was beautifully decorated, comfortable, hearty and welcoming. After trying both classic and gluten free – off course the classic is far better but it’s really great that they have a gluten free option for those who can’t select the classic option. The finger sandwiches were simple but delectable; however the gluten free sandwiches didn’t have the same attention to detail as it had a bit of crust around them (I like my traditional finger sandwiches identical as they should be for afternoon tea :D) but all in all we can’t go hating on the crusts can we now.
The scones were the perfect size; homemade buttermilk scones with Devonshire clotted cream and jam. I made sure I had enough room for the sweet treats. The cakes and pastries are homemade from their pantry counter – they weren’t mind blowing but it was “ok”. I didn’t particularly like the dessert in a shot glass; I tasted bitter tea leaves which didn’t sit well with my palette; however I really enjoyed that gluten free brownie; that was super moist and chocolaty mmmmm. Finally; I like to end my post with a good high – can I just way how omfg amazing was that Lady Jasmine mocktail?!! Recently added to the menu; a refreshing jasmine iced tea with fresh melon, ginger, mint and a touch of elderflower. I couldn’t get enough of it and am still thinking about it – when I am hyped about something it holds a strong memory for me. I had a lovely day and I was surprised they didn’t kick us out as we were lingering for more than 2.5 hours – I would have happily jumped out the window for staying too long! Haha but it was a quiet Sunday, it was a Murray final in Wimbledon so Sheepa and I chilled as we caught up with life. Oh and I told her I am moving to HK … she didn’t take that too well!
*The afternoon tea experience was complimentary but all opinions are my own! I promise.
