I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to visit Maltby Street Market. I have spent every weekend scrolling through my Instagram feed and seeing these wonderful pics from the market and enough was enough, I had to get my ass there. I had a massive workout in the morning at 1Rebel (omg I almost died!!) but I worked up a massive appetite. I met up with 2 others so we could eat more around the stalls (yay!).

First up, the king crab on brioche with mac n’ cheese which came with as much as you like side salad and garnish for £8. It was creamy, flavoursome form the crab topping and nice crunchy brioche. I wished there were more crab on this if I am paying £8.

Steak Frites and Double-Cooked Chips for £8: Dry-aged British beef steak with double (or is it triple??) cooked chips for £8. It was very succulent with chimichurri steak sauce. It explains why the queue is so long for this stand but it was well worth the wait.

Dhan Waffles – I came to Maltby Street specifically to try the Dhan Waffles; the most Instagrammed stall in Maltby Street. Apparently an iconic Taiwanese sweet snack with a choice of 6 toppings: homemade salty caramel, homemade vanilla custard, Taiwanese honey, Taiwanese artisan peanut butter, New Zealand pic peanut butter and off course Nutella. I personally didn’t enjoy the Taiwanese honey but I loved the vanilla custard topping. 6 in a box came to £6 – it was a nice little treat.

Bean Bagged Iced Coffee – They took on the Asian style coffee with no machines but their bare hands! They create their unique blend with coffee beans from India, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand from a small family run farm in the Sethuraman estate in Southwest India. Using Thai cloth filter, soaking their blends below boiling point, bagged up with ice and wallah! We thought it was a great lil gimmick to have coffee in a sealable back but the coffee was absolutely delicious..urrghh I could have more. The blend was aromatic and we all agreed that it definitely tasted damn good. Everything they use is from sustainable sources as well as being environmentally friendly. It was definitely the most fun at a street market in a long while! Although Borough market was sort of around the corner; I felt like that place has become too commercialised which doesn’t give the smaller businesses much of a chance. I went around 2.30pm where crowds started to die down – if you love a good mosh pit then 11am – 2pm is for you. Maltby Street Market is open on Saturday 10am – 4pm and Sunday 11am – 4pm. May x
