My preconception of Prague was that it’s pretty, rich in culture, photographic and fairly cheap. Honestly, I didn’t know much about this city, let alone Czech Republic in general! I spent a solid weekend with 2 of my friends where we have planned a visit to all the touristic hot spots for 2 whole days. As an amateur photographer; I obviously wanted to have some time to myself to do my own thing so I hope they didn’t mind too much (I am not much of a tourist anymore to take selfies – I guess all photographers go through that transition from being in front of the camera to being behind it).

4 Star Hotel in Můstek, Praha 1 – Fusion Hotel

Quirky hotel which reminded me of QBIC hotel in London. Unique, modern and colourful themes with a twist. Edgy and cool  for young travellers in the heart of Prague. We had 4 single beds in our room which felt a bit like a hostel – but the decor was so quirky I didn’t mind so much. The corridor was very dark and room numbers were lit up in green – I genuinely felt like I was in a laser quest game. Unfortunately; the walls were rather paper thin and we could hear door slams and knocking from the throughout the night which was disturbing. We managed to have a look at some of the other rooms; they are beautifully decorated with the same quirky touch; they even have an Xtensive Room aka orgy room where they have the largest bed in Central Europe! Based on the room we had; I didn’t feel like we were in a 4 star hotel; but we were definitely in a 4 star location. They also have decent wifi and a very good playlist in the reception area (I say this because I Shazammed a lot). My overall rating for Fusion Hotel is 7/10.

Prague Old Town: Wenceslas Square: Obviously a touristic destination point; super busy and the main attraction is off course the Clock Tower. To get a real good view? There is a hotel opposite it (I can’t remember what it’s called); just pop in, go upstairs to the restaurant and get your photo from the window 🙂

Žižkov Tower: Unfortunately this tower fell into the 30 world ugliest buildings! I personally love it because it sort of reminds me of Men in Black and I love that film. There is a luxury 1 room hotel above the restaurant with a great view of the city! You see those giant babies crawling up the tower? The Babies are the work of the internationally acclaimed Czech artist David Černý, who is known for his provocative and controversial pieces of art.

Charles Bridge: 15th Century bridge under the auspices of King Charles IV. I am going to give is a special mention here: this bridge is packed with tourists and a hot spot for thieves! I was a target and 5 seconds away from getting robbed. I had my Canon 5D Mark II, passport, digital camera, wallet, cash, basically my whole life! I was wearing a backpack and I felt something opened; I noticed a guy slowly walking away and I approached him! He then decides to move away and casually approach these 4 Korean girls and I ran up to them telling them that this guy was planning to rob them. Off course, he didn’t think I was going to be  raging British Chinese girl but I managed to save the fate of 4 Korean girls from getting robbed. That’s just 4 girls I saved; unfortunately I believe many people were robbed on this bridge and apparently; Asians are a target as they think we carry a lot of “cash”. Tip: DON’T wear a backpack unless it’s got a padlock on it; keep your bag in front of you – it will look silly but you rather look silly than cry your eyes out.

Segway Tour: I highly recommend a segway tour in Prague and my friend found Easy Segway and they were more than just fantastic! There are plenty of Segway tour companies that offer a cheap deal but my advice is don’t skimp on the tour quality. Our tour guide (Petr) is the founder and he has a passion like no other for tourism in Prague – I learnt so much from him as well as the many political debates with Russia, on Brexit and people of Prague.

Grand Cafe Orient: cute lil museum on cubism but people don’t seem to realise that their staircase is the ultimate vision.

Dancing House: Apparently also an eyesore building in Prague but I think it’s pretty cool. My interpretation of this structure is that it has a very large dent in it 😀

It was a jam packed weekend; waking up at 4am to catch the sunrise and empty streets of Prague – I got all the undisturbed shots on my camera and managed to walk my way round with ease while the city was still sleeping. Until next time Prague, there is still so much more to see and never got the chance to see it all!
